I’m trying to save my own NLP settings presets, but they are nowhere to be found after saving.

Settings \> Create New Preset… I give it a name and hit save preset.

But I cannot find the new preset anywhere. Not in the NLP pull down menu, not in the LrC User Presets section.

Furthermore, when I reopen NLP, the settings revert to NLP Standard and the colours jump around, so I can’t even make adjustments to the settings that were there previously. If I make adjustments and DON’T save a preset, I can reopen NLP and the settings are as I left them.

Help?

UPDATE:

Ok what the hell is happening. Now, randomly, a preset I created earlier IS showing up in the LrC User Presets menu, but still not either of the two I’ve tried creating since then. AND, in a new image, I made adjustments in NLP and saved a preset, closed NLP, reopened NLP and… the setting DIDN’T change this time. I’m getting HELLA random behaviour here. Honestly I’m about ready to smash my head against the wall.

I’m having similar issues. Presets wont save and on some images, after I make edits and save them, opening NLP again brings me to the “Convert Image” page, as if it doesn’t realize or remember that I had already converted it and made edits.

This seems to only happen on images that I tried to save my NLP settings as a preset. For those that I didn’t try to save settings as preset, the NLP window opens back up to my previously made edits just fine.

Very strange.

Same here. Created a preset, saw it in the user drop down before hitting apply, applied preset, opened NLP again and the saved preset is missing from the menu.

Same happening for me, I create a user preset, give it a name, save and when I pull them drop down menu back down it shows fine. Then when I close out or move on to the next image the preset disappears and doesnt appear to have saved.

Sorry for the frustrating experience guys.

I can’t replicate the issue on my end, but my guess would be that something has gone wrong with folder permissions…

Try navigating to this folder:

![CleanShot 2025-10-11 at 19.41.31@2x](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/negativelabpro/optimized/2X/f/fe31ad0c10bfe0825d9961c6fe6b9279c7d74646_2_1380x52.png)

(obviously replace “nathanjohnson” with your user name)

And then right click on the folder and select “Get Info.”

The folder permissions should look something like this:

 ![CleanShot 2025-10-11 at 19.41.16@2x](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/negativelabpro/original/2X/4/4da4a0a102fcc3eaad64eae6a2207a72142c2c76.png)

If they don’t look like that, try changing them to that and see if this fixes the issue.

I changed staff rights to Read & Write and applied it to all items within. Now, things work as expected.

I just had issues with saving presets _and defaults_ with NLP 3.1.1 , but that’s gone after having ser R/W to the “staff” group. (tested on macOS Tahoe and a 2020 M1 MBA)

@nate Hello. I have the same issue - user presets are saved but disappear after closing the program. Changed folder permissions but the issue remains (I have also noticed, that for me NLP automatically installs into the Adobe folder).

 ![image](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/negativelabpro/original/2X/6/6ef0314a51032b400919f85de033674f7049a5ab.jpeg)

I have tried to manually create folders and changed the location to match your example (and gave full permission to the folder), but its still did not solve the presets issue.

Presets are stored by default to

- Erika (or whatever your account name is on your Mac)
-
  - Library
  -
    - Application Support
    -
      - Negative Lab Pro
      -
        - Presets

Select the “Presets” folder and punch command-I to see how rights are set.
Owner rights should be set to “read + write”, other rights are normally read only.

Set all rights to “read + write” and things should be okay.

…if “mpv” is the only folder in Application Support, you’ve got a problem anyways.

I suppose your screen shows a filtered view which does NOT provide any clue.
In order to debug the situation, a wider view (e.g. the full path) is needed.

_Other than that, you could re-install NLP and see if you’ll find its folder afterwards._

With **macOS Golden Gate** coming soon, I installed NLP and found the issue was there too.

The respective NLP folders and files all have “System” as their owner and therefore, user presets cannot be saved. NLP and macOS _don’t_ ask to authorise saving the presets either.

**Proceed as Nate proposes above to fix the issue - on macOS Golden Gate**

* * *

@nate
Looking into the installer, I found this:

 ![Screen @ 2026-08-29 um 14.03.10.029](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex029/uploads/negativelabpro/original/2X/a/a2614f5cc9d242636323a08baf11c47a5717dcc2.jpeg)
To me, it looks like the script runs as root which sets the owner accordingly.

From the issue we have, NLP does not seem to run as root, but as “someone else”.
By giving ownership to the user via the installer, the issue should go away.

I have no clue though, why some users have the issue and others don’t.

On my Mac, all folders in Library \> Application Support are owned by “501”, but NLP has “0”

```auto
501@iMac ~ $ cd Library/Application\ Support
501@iMac ~/Library/Application Support $ ls -n
