I suspect that thereās not a ton of overlap between the audience for an app where you take a handheld picture of a negative with your phone, and the group of people who are obsessive enough to hang out on a web forum about negative conversion, but I could be mistakenā¦
Ton of overlap? Probably not.
Consider someone providing conversion of negatives in an app using AI, how long will it take until the big ones come up with such a feature in their software? The market might not be huge, but who else uses e.g. āminiature effectā?
Maybe that @nate already feels the pressure.
I did have a look at their site (because Iād never heard of it). Thereās a page on their blog entitled āHow to View Film Negatives: 5 Ways to See Whatās on Your Filmā which seemed pretty sensible, and not just plugging their app. It does say that their app is a good way to preview colour negatives on a lightbox instantly. If thatās true, and it works well, then I can see that might be useful. It goes on to mention other methods as well, including digital contact prints.

It looks like the app uses AI similar to what I described in my post āI Asked AI to Invert Negative Imageā. Of course one needs to install the app and judge the results, but i personally very reluctant to install anything on my phone unless it comes from the known source. Given single review of the app, it looks like it does some conversion and then sends picture for AI enhancement and we know how well those enhancements work
All wording in the blog is almost correct, but something is off, hinting that the text is lifted from some other sites and regurgitated.
I just tried it.
Quite usefull if you want a quick view with your phone on your negatives without converting them in your brain and make a judgement on what to expect.
