Shutter type on Sony A7Riv

I know this has been discussed before, I have looked at some of the older threads, but wondering if there was any new consensus or options about the benefits of the different shutter types on my new-to-me Sony A7R iv with the Sigma 105mm 2.8 macro and Valoi film carrier using Cinestill CS-Lite source.

This is my first time owning a camera that has an electronic shutter. I understand the basic idea of how an electronic shutter works and how the ‘Front Curtain’/hybrid shutter works on the Sony. My instinct and testing tells me that both of those options are better (in terms of stability) to the full mechanical shutter for neg scanning. But I’m struggling to see any difference in captures between the electronic and front curtain shutter. Which is probably an indicator that my copystand is working well. Are there other considerations to take into account, apart from stability? What are other users experience or options regarding e-shutters? Any change to the file data ?

I’m also using a Sony a7r4. I’m using the e-Front Curtain Shutter and it’s fine. I also keep Steady Shot ON even though the camera is on a stand because the house has barely noticeable (at 11.9 magnification) vibrations (probably from operating AC, boilers or from outside) that one doesn’t physically notice but are there; the Steady Shot deals with them. As the camera is tethered it is never touched for making the exposure. That happens from the computer in the Sony Remote application.

Thanks Mark. Am going to continue with “e-Front Curtain Shutter”. From my testing also seems to be the best option. And thanks for the tip about Steady Shot, going to turn that on.

Out of curiousity, do you have samples of the full mechanical shutter versus the e-front curtain shutter where you can see a difference?
