LOL, that’s also an issue for me! I think that autofocus at this point in my life is more accurate than I am. I also use focus peaking in the viewfinder because I just don’t trust my eyes or the diopter adjustment to be spot on. I’ve done quite a bit of camera scanning in the last several months and I must say that autofocus works about 99.9% of the time if the original image is in focus. If you have soft focus in the original, the autofocus gets confused. That’s when I step in and manually focus the lens.

99% works for me! Much better then my eye-site average I’m sure!
