Backlight for Scanning with DSLR

I was just wondering if it was possible/advisable to use a PC LCD Monitor set to a white background as a light source for photographing Negs and Slides?

I have a Lacie 324 which has a 95% Adobe RGB gamut (don’t know if this is important for this topic,) and was wondering about the possibility of using it as a back light?

You can always try it. Put the monitor not too close to the negative, or you’ll see the rgb structure of the monitor. In other words: The monitor must be way out of focus to not show the structure.
