Hi folks just interested in people’s scan settings for the Valoi Easy 120. Have been scanning for a couple of years with a copy stand but now with the Valoi second guessing my settings. The manual says I should aim to scan at 1/30 at f/8!! My metering (for black and white) generally comes out at 1/200 - checked using the histogram.

so, am just interested what other people are using for the easy 120. Have a Nikon full frame with sigma 105 macro set at f/8 and metering using centre weighted (I didn’t buy the extra masks so there is stray light at either end of the frame - may manual mask this for my 6x6 negs.

Am also going to do 35mm which I imagine will be faster again!

Might be the Valoi guidelines be for colour negative (with the orange base)?

Exposure time at any given iso and aperture settings can vary from take to take, depending on lighting conditions and image content.

Best practice proposes to expose at base iso, aperture set to what delivers the best mix of DOF and even acutance and a shutter time that puts the histogram slightly below highlight clipping.

The sturdier your rig is, the longer you can expose…and the valoi is a fairly stable setup. Just hold still when exposing. Use self-timer and/or remote control for less vibration.
