35mm Film Holder for Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II

I’ve had a 5400 scanner for years and with the passage of time, I’ve lost the Film Holder

Now, with the C-19 lockdown and with time to spare, it’s frustrating that I cannot get my negatives scanned

The part number is FH-20M and if anyone has one spare or knows where there is one, please do let me know

Alternatively, is there a holder from another device that is known to fit tmy scanner, for instance the FH-U1 holder for the Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Dual II?

All advice and assistance gratefully received

Hi - I came across your post re. the Minolta 5400 scanner film holder. I am in the same boat - I need that part. Did you eventually succeed in your search for part number FH-20M?

I’m liquidating my father’s estate; I want to list his Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 scanner for sale but I’m not sure how much of a price it will command without the film holder.

Do you happen to know, is part FH-20M used to hold both film (negatives) and slides for that scanner? Or is a slide holder a different part number?

Hi Ted,

For the Konica-Minolta Dimage Elite 5400 Scan II

The Slide carrier is the SH-M20 and this allows up to four slides to be scanned in a single batch

The corresponding Negative carrier is the FH-M20 and that allows a negative strip of up to six images to be loaded

The two are not interchangeable except if you cut your negatives strip into individual images and then loaded each into a slide holder - all very involved and time consuming

For my part, I eventually found my own FH-M20 which was a relief as I was unable to locate another one anywhere

I’m looking for SH-M20 as well. Will you please let me know where you found it? Thank you.

Hello @Mino ! I know it’s been 4 years but was wondering if you (or someone else here) still have your FH-20M ?
I’m in need of one and I’m hopeful that if someone can provide me with some decent photos I could CAD it and 3D print it.
Can anyone maybe help?

Thanks!!

Hi Geokonst,

If you are asking whether I still have my Dimage Elite 5400 and its negative and slide carriers then yes I still do

That said, I last used the kit in 2020 - during lockdown - to scan over 7,000 slides and negatives

I then used a third-party software package called VueScan from Hamrick Software

So all that said - what is it that you would like me to consider?

Mino

Hi Mino!
Thanks for the quick reply.
I’ve got an elite 5400 II as well but no holders. I was thinking that with good enough photos or measurements I could try designing a replica and 3d printing it.
Would you consider sending me or posting some good photos of the fh-20m? Ideally on a grid paper or with some other object for size reference?
Cheers!

This exchange has got me thinking…

If I was to receive an purchase offer for my Elite 5400 that I could not refuse then why would I refuse it?

Oh these are great @Mino !!! Thank you so much!!! Will start working on it asap. Do you maybe know what the thickness of the whole assembly is with the lid closed?

I already got the scanner which I got for a bargain, so I don’t think I can make an unrefusable offer. Unless you want to sell me just the holder which if I’m being honest I wouldn’t do myself. Would be happy to rent the holder though for a month, to get the measurements right.

Again thanks for your help, so kind of you!

Best wishes,
George

Hi George

Top wall thickness 10mm
Bottom wall thickness (at the rack) 10.5mm
Width 69.75mm
Length 283mm

You are right, I would not want to split the scanner from the slide/negative carriers for then I would be left with the same useless bargain that you currently have … ?:O)

And no disrespect for I do not know you and so a temporary loan would make me rather nervous

Whereabouts are you anyway?

The advantage to you of buying my entire kit and caboodle is that you will be able to scan the original carriers to make authentic copies and then you’d have a second complete kit that you can sell on - remember, other than Kodak’s toy scanner and the like, the market is really lacking a high res scanner … just thinking …

Kind regards,
Mino
