Always having to pull brightness way down

Hi all—I’m running into a recurring issue with my conversions, and I don’t know if it’s normal behavior or if there’s an issue I need to address with my scanning process (so, this might be miscategorized…)

I’m DSLR scanning with a fuji x-s10, micro-nikkor 55/2.8, and the cinestill cs-lite.

I find myself always having to pull brightness way, way down in my scans—the highlights always are very hot, and there is often some information that can be recovered. The before and after shows my initial import (frontier color model, lab standard tone profile, auto neutral white balance, nothing adjusted) and edits to brightness and contrast. I’m also sharing the raw file here.

I guess what I’m looking for is just confirmation on whether this is just a normal part of the editing or if I should be adjusting my scanning process to address this. I try to over-expose by a stop while keeping my shutter speed consistent for an entire roll.
