Conversion issue with blue sky photo

A C-41 conversion in Lightroom is giving me very strange results. NLP doesn’t seem able to convert this photo of a blue sky. Is there are workaround?

I’m using version 2.2, TIFF scan, Frontier and very low pre-saturation. Thank you!

Hi,

There are a couple of workarounds:

  1. First, I’d try to changing the “blackClip” point. For instance, here, I’d try a pretty large negative number, like -20, and go from there. Basically, NLP tries to set the darkest point to black, and in scenes which don’t have anything close to true black, this can happen.
  2. You may also want to adjust the WhiteClip point down as well (assuming there is nothing pure white in the scene)
  3. If you have more photos from the same roll which have a larger dynamic range in the scene (i.e. there is something in the scene that is close to black and something close to white), you can just copy the conversion from that over to this scene (using the “sync scene” feature).

Let me know if that helps. You can also email the original tiff at nate@natephotographic.com if you want me to take a look at it.

Cheers!

The blackclip and whiteclip worked. Thanks Nate!

Thanks for letting me know
