Stand alone version

Hi. I’m writing from Spain. Nice to meet you. Will there be a Mac version of standalone NLP?

Yes, see Nate’s post in this thread on Feb 13

Thank you Harry. Excellent notice

Hi @nate any update?

Getting closer…

A few screenshots for you…

What’s completed:

  1. Basic catalog management, editing, and library view with settings persistence
  2. Basic shortcut keys (with plan to make all shortcut keys editable)
  3. Color management (all managed under the hood)
  4. All of NLP’s image editing sliders with GPU accelerated render (uses the same math from the plugin but with increased precision vs Lightroom plugin because I can do it all in 16-bit. If you want, you can still emulate the older versions though in the engine settings)
  5. Scopes tool with Histograms, “Chromagrams” (something new I’ve dreamed up), Waveforms, and Vectorscopes. I’ve also added a point sample tool with nameable samples and live readouts in RGB % and in LAB. I’ve also added clipping indicators into the histogram and a live photo clipping overlay.
  6. Fully customizable background canvases, with optional framing and grid mats. It helps SO much to be able to set up the proper context as you are editing and evaluating photos!
  7. Crop module with customizable overlay, draggable angle straighten tool, and fully customizable guide overlay.

In progress:

  1. Raw pipeline integration. I built this separate from the GUI because it was such a beast, but now I need to integrate it into the GUI.
  2. Proper image caching for the catalog (which will make it zippy - right now switching between photos or between editing and catalog view is a bit laggy).
  3. Import / Export flow (just the UI for it, the backend is already there).
  4. Grain diffusion & edge sharpening. (I’ve been researching this for quite some time and very close to finalizing, but just trying to find the right control parameters and defaults.)
  5. Full metadata display and editing
  6. Licensing and trial implementation.
  7. Testing cross-platform (Windows, Linux, Intel Macs, etc). This is always a pain.
  8. Transition plan for existing NLP edits from Lightroom to standalone. I’ve been experimenting with a few ways to do this and I think the most reliable will be to have a separate LR plugin to facilitate this process, but needs some work.

This is basically what’s left for V1.0, but I have an ambitious roadmap for additional features once this is out.

Dude this is so awesome! I started working on a personal editing app for my phone and really just ended up frustrated with something that didn’t really work. Really makes me appreciate what you’re putting into this. I’m so excited to get the standalone app!

I’ve tried way too many alternatives that suck, because I don’t use Adobe products. This is great news and really looking forward to buy license for the standalone app!

Looking forward to it! Please let me know if you need any Windows/Mac ( desktop pc + mac laptop) testers. I’ve tested just about every conversion tool out there and have scans from old film scanners like the Nikon Coolscan, camera scans with different cameras including the Fuji GFX, and various light sources like the CineStill SpectraColor.

If you don’t need testers, I’ll definitely try it once it’s released!

Count me in the many who are thrilled by this news and who are happy to help with testing on Windows desktop/laptop if needed! (I have literally decades of experience with testing beta imaging software from my former life as a reviewer for numerous digital imaging publications.)

I’ve been longing to use Negative Lab Pro for years, but I’m no longer willing to use Adobe’s subscriptionware so I’ve been patiently waiting and hoping instead. My dreams are coming true!

Fantastic news Nate! Looking realy nice. Can’t wait for release.

Uuh this was a nice surprise in the email digest! Looking forward for this to be out.

What will be your approach to licensing for it?

VERY cool, Nate! I’ll probably bite right away when it’s out.

Hi @nate , this looks like great news. When I was an Adobe user, I bought NLP but, as I no longer use Adobe products, I’ve been waiting for the stand-alone version. A couple of questions, if I may:

  1. When (roughly) do you anticipate the stand-alone version will become available?
  2. If I understand one of the earlier comments correctly, there’s mention of payment for the Adobe plug-in purchase being used as credit towards the stand-alone version. Is this correct?
I’m really looking forward to hearing more about the new product and getting to try it out.
    Keep up the great work…

Hey Nate, excited for the progress! Will the standalone program function as a normal photo editing software aside from its ability to edit film scans? For example, do we have the option to import photos shot on digital?

Hey Nate,
I’ve had your plugin since 2022,
and I can’t wait for the Adobe-independent version.
I have Nikon Coolscan 5000 and 9000 scanners, and an Epson V700,
and I scan through VueScan.
I’m willing to send sample scans or test the app.
And in the near future, I hope to fully upgrade to these versions.

Looking forward to trying this. Will this version be compatible with RGB light sources?

OMG! Wow, just Wow! I am SO excited. Thank you ever so much!

I was about to purchase the NLP plugin version and saw that there’d be a discount for the stand alone version for plugin owners. At this point will it be better to wait for the stand alone or will the difference be about the same if I buy the plug in and then upgrade?
