Stand alone version

I’ve been a satisfied user for a while now but to computers not running the latest operating systems cannot use a copy of Adobe Lightroom Classic to accommodate the Neg Lab Pro plugin. A stand alone version is needed please. Any updates on this development?

Working on it! I’ve been up to 2:00am in the morning pretty much every night… the hardest part has been getting a full raw color pipeline that is fully calibrated against Adobe… this necessary to ensure the same color is produced through the standalone as is produced currently in the plugin. But i’m past that stage now and things are moving pretty quickly. Hoping to have a fully functioning and feature rich demo to share by end of Feb, and then beta testing in March.

That’s great news. What operating systems are you targeting for the stand alone version please?

macOS, Windows & Linux.

Native binaries for better performance.

Sorry Nate. I was asking specifics of which Mac OS X versions the stand alone will work with please? A lot of us are using older Intel Macs whose Mac OS X runs out at Monterey so its important to know if the stand alone will function.

Yes, Intel Macs will still be supported (in addition to native Apple Silicon). It’s possible though that initially it will Apple Silicon with Intel support added after launch.

I’m aiming for MacOS 12+ (Monterey), but this is a little bit of a moving target… definitely Ventura, but it does complicate things a little bit to include Monterey support…

Glad to hear you’ve been working on a standalone version, Nate. I’m just getting into this world of camera scanning and weighing my options. If I purchase a license for the current Lightroom plug-in version, will that cover the standalone version once it’s released? Or will it be a separate purchase? Cheers.

Ecstatic about this development! Time to revisit some FOSS alternatives to Lightroom again. I’m super excited to hear about all OSes being supported. This is a game changer.

If Monterey isn’t supported that takes me out of the game entirely I’m afraid. I haven’t been able to use the Lightroom plug in as I can’t get Lightroom that runs on Monterey.

Hello,

Great plug-in! It is very fast and precise then in camera negative feature and also is very usefull to trim values in raw.
I always used only Nikon Capture do post process my photo.
I should be fantasti to have stan alone version.
Is there any good news?
We have to buy another license?
Thank you

Hi Nate, I am new to your community because I heard that you were developing a stand alone version of your well-regarded software. I hung onto my LR6 until I couldn’t run Win10. I switched to a Mac and refuse to sign up for an Adobe subscription. I am using Pixelmator Pro and really like it, but no plug-ins. I have hung onto an old (non-3 year subscription) copy of PSE with a ColorPerfect plug-in to convert negatives, but Rosetta 2 is going away so both of those tools are going also. So, I would be so happy to have a stand-alone solution for the 3000+ negatives I still want to convert. I will be watching for your release. I expect there are MANY in my situation that would love to see your solution. Thanks!

Still working out the exact details but your purchase of the lightroom plugin version can be used as a credit/discount towards the purchase of the standalone.

Great timing, really looking forward to this! The day the beta gets released will be the day I put Adobe in the rear view mirror forever, and good riddance.

Really hoping to see that standalone version soon! Your product is great and I will wait for the standalone version for purchasing. No beta version around yet? I’d be happy to test it out!

I’ve been reading/following up about this once every few months, and I want to say thank you so much for adding Linux into the mix here. After getting fed up with Adobe I’m now mainly using darktable/Linux and while the negadoctor module is capable it’s nowhere near as easy to use as NLP and doesn’t get the same excellent results…so I (and I’m sure many other Linux users) are very thankful for this.

Hey Nate, any progress updates?

Will the standalone version include something to replace LR’s FFC function?

Let me know if you need a beta tester

Hi Nate,

I’m also very interested in a stand alone version. Using an M2 MAC and actively scanning and manually converting (using DXO).
Would be happy to serve as a beta tester.
Sincerely,

jim

Just wanted to chime in as well. I would absolutely love a standalone version of NLP. I finally canceled my adobe subscription after years. Both myself and my partner have used NLP for a long time and would be happy to help with any testing. (Linux, intel mac, windows 10 and 11).
If there are other ways we can support this, please let us know.
