For the first time ever, NLP is asking me to convert images that I have already converted when I press Ctrl+N. I “scanned” a couple days ago a roll of black and white using my Nikon D810. The .NEF raw files are converted nicely, but I want to tweak many of them via the NLP dialog. Now, when I press Control+N on an image, I get the initial dialog to convert. Obviously, I don’t want to convert already converted images. Any clues? The computer has been restarted.
UPDATE: This doesn’t occur with previous rolls of scanned negatives, either color or B&W. This leads me to believe that my most recent roll (Kodak Tmax-400) went haywire and I have to rescan the roll?
Hey there! I’m having this issue with ALL of my images and unsure why. It won’t let me unconvert my images, but they appear converted. Is there a way to repair or resolve the metadata issue? It was a ton of work to prep and convert my entire body of work. I work in photo sets so it’s important for me to convert them in an identical way and then edit them from there to match each other. I just noticed this when I was simply trying to unconvert a few images from a roll and retry with some different settings like I always do to get the final edit closer to what I have in mind. Thanks for your time and help!
First, are you sure that you aren’t trying to unconvert a “positive copy?” If you’ve made a positive copy, then that copy won’t be able to be unconverted.
Second, if you have recently move files between computers, or moved file locations, make sure you do this by exporting and then importing as a Lightroom catalog… the Lightroom Catalog itself is what stores information about the conversion (including conversion status). So if the images are moved outside of the context of the catalog, then it could cause some complications.
If that doesn’t help, here is what you can do to help me diagnose the issue:
Select an image (or a few images) where you are having this issue
Go to “File > Export as Lightroom Catalog”. Be sure to select “Include Negatives”
Zip up the exported library, and share with nate@natephotographic.com and I will have a look at what is going on with the files
