I have been testing out the newish Capture one negative conversion tool and I still get better and more consistent conversions with NLP. Wondering if others have had the same experience. The one things that is sooo nice is not having to open the NLP plugin each time you switch to a new image. But not worth the switch for me.
I just wrote a bunch about this in the MTF thread. NLP flatters non-ideal scans, but C1 only performs well with a great light source - especially RGB. Once the light source is sorted, C1 performs better, in my experience.
What light source are you using? I am using the new Cinestill, which gives great colors but unfortunately is dimmer than their previous light.
I haven’t used the new Cinestill, so I cannot compare, but I am using Jack’s Big Scanlight with great results. If you are using the CS in RGB mode, are making sure to crop out the edges before conversion, and are getting good white balance first, C1 should be giving great results. I use the Pick Neutralize tool to fine tune after conversion and the color usually snaps right into place. Occasionally I may need to nudge the color balance controls on some images, but that applies to NLP/Adobe as well, if not more.
NLP takes you much closer to the final look of normal (not too artsy ) picture. C1 is not that good at nailing that look, but it has truly unmatched array of tools you can use to bring your picture to the final destination. So NLP is limited to what Lightroom allows to do after conversion, while in C1 your can freely exercise all your creativity and skills. my 2 cents.
Wow looks great! Let me know if you are looking for testers.
I’ve been waiting for this to come out to buy NLP! I’m so excited, and my wife will be very happy that I don’t have to pay for Adobe anymore haha
Are you balancing the per-channel levels on the light before scanning or are you just keeping them all at max?
I’ve done it both ways, and I don’t think it really made much difference.
