I just set up NLP on a iMac 24/M4 and when I attempt to use the plugin I get:

As of now, Negative Lab Pro needs Rosetta 2 to make it run on Apple Silicon hardware.
Have you installed Rosetta 2 yet?

No, but I did see that instruction but not being computer savvy I thought wait until I heard from someone. So I simply copy that string and paste it into the terminal? Correct.

Thank you Digitizer!

HOWEVER I CAN’T FIND THE POST WITH THE STRING TO COPY AND PASTE???

This page says how you can install Rosetta:

I did just change from Windows to a new MacBook Pro with M4 and Sequoia 5.2. I have installed NLP 3.02 without any problem. I did not install Rosetta. I have no Idea if Rosetta works “automaticly” in the background, but NLP works great, like I know it from Windows.
But I have another problem. I copied my whole picture folders, RAW and undeveloped jpeg, to an external hard drive and created a new catalog. Everything looks fine in LrC, also the already under Windows NLP-developed negatives. But when I try to change them with NLP, NLP don’t notice they already converted ones, so in the “developing panel”, all sliders at “0”. When I convert a base negative, NLP works as expected, also I can restart the edit panel and the sliders are off the “0” value. Any idea how to fix it?
Actually it’s not a big issue, but would be great to have future possibilities for editing already converted negatives.

If NLP works on your Mac without asking for Rosetta, it might have been installed anytime before, by some other non-universal app you used. So far so good.

As for lost settings: Lightroom Classic writes settings and metadata to the .xmp sidecars - if you have enabled it in the catalog settings.

You could try the following:

  • check the thumbnails in Library view and find some sign of un-sync’ed metadata, usually displayed with a badge in the upper righthand corner of the image frame(s). Read metadata from files manually with the respective menu item.
  • import the catalog from your Windows PC.

Hello Digitizer,

just as information to your opinion about Rosetta.
It is a brand new MacBook Pro M4, and all yet installed apps/programs have been installed by myself. Not any of these programs were asking for Rosetta, and for my knowledge, all yet installed programs, like Adobe creative suit, MS 365, Blender 4.3, Firefox 133.0.3 (aarch64) are compatible with Apple silicon. Being curious, while running LrC, Excel and Firefox, I opened the activity manager to see if Rosetta is running, but it is not. So whatever makes NLP running well, I have no idea, but as long it works…I don’t mind.
It will need a bit more of time to check your tips for the missing “NLP develop information”. I will come back when I did check them out.
Until then, Happy New Year

I’m missing something I guess but do you mean that you copied your image folders as they were, in the same hierarchy that existed in your LR catalogue on your Windows machine? If so why can’t you use your previous catalogue and repoint it to the new location of your image folders? If the hierarchy is the same then you point to the top level and Lightroom automatically finds your images again. That way surely everything would return to normal for you.

Hmm, strange, because so far, launching NLP on a new volume has always needed Rosetta on my M1 MacBook Air. I’ll check again on my M1…

Update: Without Rosetta, NLP produces this Error message that is followed by others that I’ve not pasted here:

NLP still needs Rosetta. If the message doesn’t come up when NLP is started in Lightroom, Rosetta has been installed already and in many cases, we probably just click the respective message that pops up when we install NLP:

This seems to have worked.
