LR Classic Crashes When "Roll Analysis" Is Selected

Apple M1, macOS 26, NLP 3.1.1, LR Classic 15.0. LR crashes when roll analysis is selected. I’m seeing similar reports dating back to Jan 2025, all of which remain unresolved. Apparently roll analysis is supposed to improve the conversion quality, so, unchecking the box doesn’t seem like an option.

Testing on a fresh install of NLP 3.1.1 on LrC 15.0 on macOS 26.1 on a 2020 M1 MacBook Air showed no issue so far. Tested with a small bunch of 6 images (for not having to wait) and different settings of pre-saturation - and Roll Analysis.

Please understand “improve the conversion quality” as “change looks of converted images”. Directions given in NLP’s user guide are, hence the name, a guide. Results are not better or worse but more or less what you expect - and they are always a starting point.

Use all available parameters to test different images, old and new, under- and overexposed. bland or punchy…and you might find that there is no single combination of parameters that work equally with all the scans you’ll ever convert.

Back to the crash: none occurred here so far.

My way to “Fresh Install” is posted in detail in the forum somewhere. Here’s an abstract.

  1. add a volume to the Mac
  2. download the macOS installer and install onto the new volume
  3. let the installer migrate the “old” volume to the new one

Conditions: Enough free space on the drive and a backup for “just in case”…
