It worked!! I set all privileges to “read/write” on both folders you mentioned and now saving presets works great! Thanks so much Nate! And thanks to Digitizer too!
Looking at access rights on the M1 MacBook Air with Sonoma 14.7.6 and Lr 14.4, I see that rights are the same as mentioned above. I found that custom presets are only saved when they are applied. I find this to be fairly awkward.
I probably did not notice on the iMac because I wasn’t testing things systematically.
And while we’re at it:
We can define new groups (seems to work) but presets still all go to the “Presets” folder. Wouldn’t it be nice to put these into (existing or) new folders instead!
As for access rights: My Apple Silicon MacBook Air seems to need the following access right settings:
I changed group rights to Read & Write. This seems to do the trick.
One more thing: Preset names can contain blancs, the respective file names replace these blancs by minus/dash/hyphen (“-”) or whatever they’re called.
@nate
I had a look at access rights of a new installation of NLP 3.1.1 and all folders in the user’s Library/Application Support/ folder belong to the user (501) except for the NLP 3.1.1’s folder which is owned by the system (0). BUT: If NLP 3.1.1 is installed over a previous NLP 3.0.2 installation, the NLP folder remains the user’s (501). Therefore, some users will have issues with storing presets that others might not have - except the “use-before-store” issue. If a new group is created for custom presets, the new group will only be available later (using a custom preset? / restarting LrC?). I’d apreciate immediate storing and availability and hope that LrC accomodates the necessary means.
Hi @nate, i only shoot Transparencies these days and just ‘rediscovered’ NLP with the last update. Not Troubleshooting at all, but I just wanna say what a huge difference it makes using NLP compared to even a Linear Profile and the LR builtin tools in terms of Color & Contrast. huge thanks! If we could assign keyboard shortcuts to the buttons (so I can use an external Interface like a proper lab scanner), I couldnt think of anything else I might need.
Hi @nate,
I’m just wondering if you’ve had a chance to look at this issue me and @Adhum is experiencing.
Windows 11, LR Classic 13.1, NLP 3.1.1
Thank you,
Paul
Hi everyone — apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place, I’m new to the forum!
I’ve recently downloaded version 3.1 and have been enjoying the new features. The Lightroom freeze when converting multiple frames seems to be gone, which is great.
However, I’m experiencing a strange issue and wondered if anyone else has seen this:
When I make adjustments, the changes often don’t show up immediately in the preview window. I have to click on a random button in the NLP interface to force the preview to refresh and show the update.
Similarly, when scrolling through images using the arrow buttons, sometimes the next photo doesn’t load unless I press the arrow again. But then it skips ahead, and I have to go back to find the image I wanted.
Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Is there a fix or workaround?
Thanks in advance!
There are a few things you can do to fix this or improve this:
- Make sure you are in the Develop module while editing
- On some systems, going to
Preferences > Performanceand turning off all GPU acceleration can often fix this issue (this is especially true with older computers) - In the develop module, closing the “preview” view in the top left corner, and/or closing the “film strip” preview on the bottom can sometimes fix this issue and improve speed
Hmm, I see you are both on Windows 11 and LR Classic 13.1.
I wonder if updating your version of LR Classic fixes this?
I haven’t been able to replicate this on the latest version of LR Classic and Windows 11, and haven’t seen wide reports of it, so I wonder if it may just be that LrC version?
-Nate
I’ve recently updated to V3 and I can’t activate my license, I keep getting the “ERROR: Could not connect. Check internet connection and turnoff firewalls” message. I’ve tried what people suggest in other threads and nothing, same message over and over. I have algo deleted and reinstalled NLP multiple times to no avail. I recently purchased the Adobe Suite, I don’t know if this should have anything to do with it.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
An update from v3.0.2 to 3.1.1 should not ask for activation. For an upgrade from v2, you need a new license code.
You can also check/reset the number of activations in your shop account at lemonsqueezy dot com.
Thanks Nate, I turned off GPU acceleration and that seams to have done the trick. I always edit in Develop mode and don’t have the preview window open that must have been it.
Is there any way to request a new key? I still haven’t been able to activate V3.1 with the one I was given, I’m stuck with the trial version and keep getting the same error message when trying to activate. I’ve disabled firewalls, uninstalled LR and NLP multiple times and deactivated my computers from the lemonsqueezy website… nothing works
@Colombogringo , try these steps
- search the forum
- follow directions from Guide | Negative Lab Pro
- get in touch with @nate with a private message.
Versions of OS, NLP, Lr used, screens from Lr/NLP dialogs and lemonsqueezy etc. can help.
Hello @nate, and thank you for all of the information in this thread, and all of the updates in this version!
I’m looking to upgrade from 2.3 to 3.1. My LrC catalog about 3,500 raw DSLR scans, and another 1000 on an external drive, all managed by LrC, converted with NLP 2.3, and NLP Metadata populated. I have used Nikon and now Fuji for scanning, so I have .NEF and .RAF files.
Some specs for reference:
Current MacOS Version: 13.3
Latest MacOS Version: 15.6
Current LrC Version: 12.5
Latest LrC Version: 14.4 (13.5 recommended by Nate)
Current NLP Version: 2.3
Latest NLP Version: 3.1
- Can I go from 2.3 → 3.1 (I know I have to upgrade my license, perfectly ok) or do you recommend going from 2.3 → 2.4 → 3.0 → 3.1, etc?
- I see the thread above about profile misalignment, and plan to do what you described. Being able to access my previous NLP metadata, NLP “slider values,” and seeing my conversions as they are in my catalog today are important to me. Are there any other risks or call outs that come to mind to help me achieve this?
Thank you so much!
You should be able to go from 2.2.3 (which is the last version of V2) to V3.1 just fine. Just a few things to note.
- I would recommend updating your current version of Lightroom Classic, otherwise you won’t be able to use some of the new features, particularly the refined color process feature.
- The only reason you would need to worry about profile misalignment is if you were previously getting warnings that the profile for your camera was not available. So, as long as that wasn’t an issue previously, you shouldn’t see any kind of profile misalignment issue after you upgrade.
It had been a while since updated my NLP. I think I was on v2.4 before, but after upgrading to v3.1 I noticed that after converting the negative, adjusting the slides takes some time to have an effect on the image. Now there’s a good 2-3s delay if I change the light slide for example to see it in the image. Is this expected or is there something wrong with installation perhaps?
Edit: I made sure I was on the latest version of LRC before updating to v3.1
Please check this post and make sure you’re in Lr’s Develop view.
Other than that: Welcome to the forum!
